I think the worst "Critically Acclaimed" movies I've seen have been "Punch Drunk Love" and "Dangerous Liaisons"

I was totally shocked as to how pointless it was and that it won awards. we were afraid we watched the trailer or something. thought for sure that couldnt have been the movie. there was nothing of substance to it.

I hated that movie. It was like I was listening to a stranger tell me a story, and since I wasn't there to experience it, I couldn't relate. Absolutely nothing about it interested me.

I think a big, big reason why it won awards and stuff is because a Copolla directed it. "My daddy directed the Godfather, so you'd better praise my work," yada yada yada. But that's just me.

I loved the movie. I think that it just worked for me because of a few factors. #1, I love Bill Murray and his listless, slightly depressed darkness seemed more real to me than any of his other performances. #2, I find Scarlett Johansson incredibly attractive not just because of her looks, but also because of that weird darkness she has. #3 I really appreciated the small funny touches, like drunken japanese guys singing kareoke punk rock.

I think it's definitely one of those strange, different movies that really has to speak to you on a personal level for you to enjoy it and definitely won't entertain everyone. Kinda like most 'indie' movies... but it was nice to see a Hollywood film use that style.
